Square Enix was all for discussion with Sony about getting Final Fantasy XI to work on the PlayStation 3, but that representative left Sony apparently.
FFXI Online is already playable on PS2, Xbox 360 and PC. The PS3 lacks PS2-emulation software and it seems Sony don’t have ”any plans to address that issue” say Enix.
”Initially we were in talks with a representative from Sony,” revealed FFXI producer Hiromichi Tanaka to 1UP, adding, ”but it appears that that person quit.”
Why Square Enix never decided to resume talks with another individual without the penchant to quit their job is unknown.
”PS3s don’t have PS3-side PS2 emulation, and it doesn’t look like Sony has any plans to address that issue,” explained Tanaka. ”For that kind of thing to even be conceivable, it would have to be on a disc. Digital downloads wouldn’t work for this. The disc has to be in the system for the emulator to work.”
Final Fantasy XI is having a rough time of it on Xbox 360 with the recent release of the New Xbox Experience (NXE) upsetting the games installation.
