Sony are very happy with themselves at the moment as the NPD Group report the PS3 has outsold the Xbox360 for a second successive month in the US, Microsoft have claimed stock shortages are to blame.
With big name titles like GT5 Prologue, the latest Metal Gear and GTAIV coming soon to PS3 they expect to keep their rivals sweating.
"Consumers are recognizing the tremendous value of PS3 and we believe that Blu-ray becoming the high-def format of choice was the tipping point for many consumers," said president and CEO Jack Tretton of SCEA. "With monster titles like Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Grand Theft Auto IV launching in April and Metal Gear Solid 4 in June, we're demonstrating this is the year for PS3."
Grand Theft Auto IV of course is being released on both the next-gen consoles with Microsoft no doubt hoping their exclusive content deal with Rockstar will help tip things their way at launch. The PS3 was dogged and criticised with lacking any real blockbuster titles during its major debut which gave the Xbox360 the edge it needed at the time - are new storms brewing? Has Sony finally caught up in the war of 'big names'?
LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2 and MotorStorm 2 are all due later this year for Sony as well. What is certain is that both the next-gen consoles are still put to shame by Nintendo's Wii and DS handheld which continues to show strong sales figures across all markets.
