Pirates of the Burning Sea hasn’t been available for too long, 3 months to be exact, but Flying Lab are already planning to downsize the amount of servers available to four from the eleven public servers that were available. This move is being made to consolidate the POTBS fanbase, so in other words there aren’t as many subscribers as the developers originally expected.
”Through feedback from our players and evaluation of our server populations, it has become clear that key game features require populations of higher density in order to function at optimum levels,” said developer Flying Lab Software.
”When you take into account both the disparity in player time zones and the delayed launch of our title in some countries, we were spreading our overall population too thin.”
Current players living out their pirating dreams on the servers that are to be shut down will be given the option to transfer their characters to one of the four servers that are available.
It’s great to see more MMORPG’s that aren’t based around the World of Warcraft theme, like Orcs and other mystical races, so we’ll be hoping that this isn’t the start of a downfall for Pirates of the Burning sea.
