The adventure developer Telltale Games, developer of Sam & Max and Tales of Monkey Island, has revealed they’ll be announcing some new things ”in the next few months”.
Those include new titles from existing properties, as well as entirely news one and even projects outside of comedy. Studio boss Dan Connors points toward Heavy Rain, and drama.
”Yes, probably in the next few months,” Connors confirmed to VG247, asked when announcements on their new projects will be forthcoming.
”I think there’ll be some combination of things. I think we’ll be sticking with some of the franchises we’ve worked with, and we’ll be announcing some new franchises, probably in some new genres as well, not just comedy.”
Telltale may branch out into more serious subject matters, as audiences have found themselves enthralled by the likes of The Sopranos, True Blood and Lost thanks to the ”drama” and ”psychological connection,” something that Quantic Dream is aiming for.
”Heavy Rain is something that really seems to be going after that sense,” he said.
”We’ve always believed that there was a chance to get there as well. We want to continue to evolve the genre. We’ve already evolved the genre in a lot of ways in what we’ve done with Sam & Max and Wallace & Gromit… but we believe there’s a lot of head-room to make more dramatic advances in storytelling and drama inside of this genre.”
We’d all love to see some Telltale Games work on The Sopranos or True Blood I’m sure, though I doubt that’s in the cards any time soon. I guess we’ll have to make do with something original then…
