Chris Lewis of Microsoft is "confident" their Xbox 360 platform is "around a million units" ahead of the PlayStation 3 in Europe. They count installed bases differently.
Microsoft tally "units in the hands of consumers", and are determined to keep up the pressure on PS3 in all of Europe, it's "integral" to win. Arcade and Elite have changed prices recently.
During GamesCom Sony announced they had sold 10 million PS3 units in Europe, which was days after Microsoft unveiled a 9 million installed base figure for Xbox 360.
"We’re confident we are actually around a million units ahead," Lewis told MCV. The Xbox 360 Pro is being phased out in favour of the Elite taking its place fulltime. The Arcade and Elite have changed price, with the former going up some in the UK.
"We count installed base differently to them," he added, "We count the number of units in the hands of consumers. We are committed to continuing that momentum – not only in places like the UK, France and Germany."
"Continued growth in all parts of Europe is integral to winning overall." The price point hike of the Arcade model in the UK is down to "exchange rate fluctuations" apparently. It's risen to £159, which is up by £30. They have no plans to phase out the SD-only SKU.
