The mega publisher has a mouth-watering $3 billion just lying around with no outstanding debt to pay. Acti boss Mike Griffith says they ”won’t rush to judgement”.
They may have the green to spend but they’re playing it conservative so far. The recession helps make acquisitions lucrative right now and ”should certainly create opportunities.”
”The combination of Activision holding a fair amount of cash and presumably prices being depressed, not only for publicly traded companies, but also likely for new intellectual property licensing rights, should certainly create opportunities,” Activision boss Mike Griffith told Bloomberg.
Activision Blizzard is now the largest publishing giant within the videogames industry and passed Electronic Arts by last year. Acti-Blizz haven’t given any clue to what has caught their eye in the marketplace, with Griffith adding ”we won’t rush to judgment just because we have cash. We will be very disciplined.”
$3 billion? That’s a lot of Guitar Hero, Call of Duty and WoW raiding right there. Who would you like Activision Blizzard to snap up?
