SEGA legend Yu Suzuki, the man responsible for Virtua Fighter, Shenmue and many other big names at the publisher has ”retired” from R&D.
While Suzuki maybe stepping down from his creative role in R&D, he in fact isn’t retiring from SEGA completely. Early arcade successes in his name are Space Harrier, Afterburner, and OutRun.
No longer standing as an R&D ”creative officer”, Suzuki will soldier on as a manager for SEGA’s AM Plus; an arcade division. So far AM has released two arcade games in Japan - Psy Phi and Sega Race TV.
Are you a Suzuki fan and didn’t even know it? So shy from the limelight is the legendary designer that SEGA America’s Simon Jeffrey didn’t know if he still had a job with them last year. OutRun has recently been resurrected as OutRun Online Arcade, releasing over XBLA.
