Justin Richmond is a multiplayer designer at developer Naughty Dog, the studio behind Uncharted and adventurer Nathan Drake. Richmond confirms ”there will be” DLC.
Expanding Uncharted 2’s co-op offering though is unlikely because it’s ”hugely time-intensive” and really big in physical size, but he’s ”not going to say never.” More co-op next game.
Richmond told Eurogamer that he’s ”working on DLC stuff for the next while,” as Naughty Dog plan on giving plenty of post-launch content. ”There will be downloadable content, yes.”
”What you’ll probably see is more of the competitive type: more maps, more modes, stuff like that. The co-op stuff is hugely time-intensive and the size of it - the physical download size - is huge, so that’s probably not an option,” he explained.
”I’m not going to say never,” noting, ”but for the foreseeable future we’re not going to be doing that.”
The developer will almost certainly be expanding the co-op experience in the next Uncharted game, now that their code is in place.
”Naughty Dog does a really good job of defining things, and I think no one’s really done a definitively amazing amazing co-op experience and I think we can do that, and it’s something that at some point we’ll tackle,” continued Richmond.
”If I have my say, then that’s what we’d do.” Naughty Dog has made it no secret that they intend to continue working with Drake and spin more adventures for him. ”There are whole parts of Drake that we haven’t talked about at all yet,” he teases.
”Drake is sort of a nice character in that there’s a bunch of stuff about his past that we know but nobody else does,” he added. ”You’ll see that… But there’s a lot more of Drake to show, for sure.”
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and has been lauded as the greatest title for the platform to date. It releases October 16th in Europe.
