With the revelation that BioWare will be talking about the ”Iterative Level Design Process” for the second instalment, could it be ready for Christmas?
The lecture will be devs discussing how they’ve managed to shave time off developing levels, keep quality high and costs down. This is the first ‘showcase’ for Mass Effect 2.
”This session examines the BioWare Mass Effect team’s new level-creation process, which is focused on maximizing iteration for quality while minimizing rework and cost,” reads the GDC.
There has been no mention of what platform Mass Effect 2 would touch on, or in fact that it officially exists as BioWare have kept it pretty quiet. As EA now own BioWare it could see an end to the exclusivity deal with Xbox 360 that the first game abided.
”This approach to building levels strives to integrate the Design, Art, and Production teams such that the highest-risk level-creation issues are addressed early in the development cycle. Lessons learned from Mass Effect lead to a detailed description of the new level-creation process, and graphical examples of a level illustrate its progression through the necessary phases,” continued the description.
”The discussion also examines how BioWare is currently implementing this process using elements of Scrum and Lean Development.”
This will be the first time anyone will catch a glimpse of the game as BioWare will hopefully show off some artwork at least. Mass Effect 2 was always expected as the developer previously revealed the IP as a trilogy at least.
