Producer Sebastien Puel at Ubisoft has revealed they’ve ”had discussions” about a World War 2 setting for a third Assassin’s Creed, and one where you could play a female.
Gender isn’t the focus, as the time period is always the ”first inspiration” for the games. Originally thought of as a trilogy, Ubi say they can just ”expand and expand,” no limits in place.
”We’ve had discussions on that very topic,” said producer Puel to Xbox World 360, referring to a dash of World War II in the future of the franchise, plus a female lead.
”It could be really interesting but we’d need to find the right time period and place for that.”
”Where would that make sense? We don’t want to just decide we want to change and have a female hero as the first inspiration is always the time period, but if you’re talking about, say, World War II the economies in England and France were run by women because the men were off fighting,” he explained.
”So maybe in this context you were a woman in England during WWII. Why not? Nothing prevents us from doing it.” There’s plenty of room to visit different time periods.
”What’s so great about Assassin’s Creed is that we can just expand and expand,” he continued. ”I’m often asked if we’re doing a third game after ACII… I mean, we could do 35 of these.”
Hopefully the series would have wrapped up gracefully before hitting 35, no offense Ubisoft. Would a War World II female assassin jumping the roofs of London pique your interest?
Assassin’s Creed 2 is being released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this November 17th in the US, and on the 20th in Europe. Check out the Venice gameplay below.
