Following on from news that sales of Xbox 360 currently lead PS3 sales by more than 8 million units, December’s NPD figures indicate PlayStation 3 sales have risen 90 percent since November 2008 and total sales of the console are up 40 percent compared to 2007.
Yet where Xbox 360 sales have enjoyed a ten percent increase due to price cuts over the lucrative holiday season (November to December), PS3 sales have dropped from 1.26 million in 2007 to 1.1 million in 2008.
While the PS3 has seen steady growth over the past year, 2008 Microsoft have issued a statement claiming that December 2008 was “the biggest month for Xbox 360 in history.”
Xbox 360 sales during December were up 38 percent from November 2008, outperforming the PlayStation 3 by a ratio of 2:1 for the third month running.
