Stardock’s Frogboy (Brad Wardell) has revealed some depressing news, right now the pirates vastly outnumber gamers who’ve parted with cash.
Of the 120,000 connections only a small ratio have actually bought the game, about 18,000, whilst the rest are ”via warez.” Stardock have ”greatly expanded” their server capacity.
”Sadly, most of the ~120,000 connections are not customers but via warez. About 18,000 are legitimate,” posted CEO Wardell.
”So anyway, we spent a lot of time today trying to isolate out the warez users from the legitimate users (it would require a lot of surgery to actually break them and even if we did, there’d be no friendly “ha ha pirate” message which would result in people just saying the game is buggy).”
For those not in the know, Demigod places you in the boots of a powerful avatar looking to get that big promotion to full Godhood. You lead the battle but don’t control your armies directly, instead players work to balance their direct involvement by taking on rival demigods and popping back to ‘upgrade’ your war machine.
Troops spew out constantly and face off against one another without player intervention, while your avatar grows in levels and abilities with the option to even buy gear like armour and trinkets to use. Gas Powered Games developed Supreme Commander so they know what big battles are meant to be.
Have you had a slice of the Demigod life yet?
