The marathon run that is MMO Final Fantasy XI is getting it’s next free update in early November, with publisher Square assuring it’s ”currently on track” for then.
The expansion known as ‘A Shantotto Ascension’ is due in October, says a new trailer. It adds new Wings of the Goddess quests, new dungeon-crawling features and more.
The Ascension also brings in an ”extensive and all-new system involving items” with adjustments to in-game jobs as well. It will be the final piece of a story-led trilogy from Chrono Trigger writer Masato Kato. It could be Final Fantasy XI’s last big moment.
Final Fantasy XIV Online releases next year and could easily spell the end for the seven year running MMO. Though other MMO originals have survived the arrival of a sequel like EverQuest, so could FFXI still join the elite decade club? See the trailer below.
