The studio says that ”in order to participate” in the highly successful promotion, Microsoft had them agree to 4 weeks exclusivity. PS3 and PC date soon.
Guardian of Light hits Xbox Live Arcade August 18th for 1200 MSP, and Crystal hope it will follow shortly after on PS3 and PC via PlayStation Network and Steam respectively. They don’t want to give exclusivity beyond the 4 promised weeks.
”As with all arcade titles, irrespective of platform, you have to go through your submissions before they agree and approve a date,” Crystal Dynamics told Eurogamer.
”Unlike a disc based title where we can pick our window, you have to go by what the first parties approve and give you a date, to make sure you’re not coming out on the same day as five other titles. They like to manage the release window accordingly.”
”We have requested a specific date and hopefully we’ll get that and it’s not too long after the 360 SKU.” This is the first time Lara Croft will feature in a full game that doesn’t carry the Tomb Raider moniker. This is the studio’s first digital title.
”The agreement with Microsoft is, in order to participate in their hugely successful Summer of Arcade promotion, there is a window of exclusivity. That window of exclusivity is a set four weeks,” continued the developer.
Crystal Dynamics took over the Tomb Raider franchise for Eidos when Core Design was released from duty. The San Francisco-based team has done tremendous work in reviving the franchise especially when they released Tomb Raider: Anniversary.
