Kinect has now been priced in the UK and analyst Michael Pachter warns it's "too high," while fellow 'psychic' Jesse Divnich disagrees.
"It's only a couple of days of sales, but it does further enforce the appetite that people have for the Xbox 360, and excitement for the 250GB slimmer, quieter version," Xbox Europe, Middle East and Africa boss Chris Lewis told GamesIndustry.biz.
Chart-Track revealed earlier than the redesigned Xbox 360 has beat both the slim redesigns of the PlayStation 2 and 3 when they launched. The Xbox 360 Slim is priced at £199 in the UK, while the Elite goes down to £149 and the Arcade sits at £119.
Microsoft has also unveiled the 4GB Xbox 360 Slim for £149, which is considered the new Arcade model and comes in matte black. It can also be bundled with Kinect and a game for £249. Standalone the Kinect camera and an included game comes to £129.
"The standalone price for Kinect is too high, and core gamers will be put off by the price," warns Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter. He acknowledges the 4GB model "is very attractive" and the 250GB model "is very profitable", leading to a price cut 2011?
EEDAR's Jesse Divnich however feels the price is fine with Kinect. "Previous peripherals with mass-market appeal, such as band kits, have sold millions of units worldwide even while priced north of 150 USD," explained the analyst, reports Joystiq.
UK retailer GAME isn't sweating over Kinect - they 'know' it'll be big. "At E3 in June, we were lucky enough to play with Kinect and can say that it truly is ground-breaking technology," said managing director Martyn Gibbs.
"Since then, we've been driving awareness of Kinect to our customers in-store and online. We know from their feedback that they are excited about getting their hands on it and what it could do to their gaming experience."
"Whether they buy Kinect on its own or as part of the great value bundle, it is going to be on the Christmas lists of both core gamers and families," continued Gibbs.
