It’s very possible as Linklater’s profile mentions it for a ”new, un- announced hardware”, but it was stopped because of a ”region-wide restructure.”
The company wide restructuring had a knock-on effect to many projects in the works, with Sony Europe’s WipEout home at Studio Liverpool feeling the pinch too. Martin Linklater was former Technical Director at SCEE, and his online resume had this to say:
”Unannounced Action Project (PS3+???) – Technical Director. Responsible for technical strategy, code evaluation, code architecture, build system, programmer recruitment, appraisals and training. Part of the ‘Product Owner Group’ responsible for setting deliverables and monitoring progress. Worked with new, un- announced hardware. Project halted due to region-wide restructure.”
The LinkedIn profile has been edited since Siliconera picked up the scent, and no longer refers to any ‘Unannounced Action Project’, just an ‘Unannounced Project’. Also of note is a PS3 game that involved a ”collision system,” the same thing Linklater was responsible for on the WipEout Pure project for PSP. WipEout HD is listed separately.
Could another WipEout have been on the way only to get canned?
