Sony’s big boss Kaz Hirai has clarified there will be no PlayStation that shuns the ”physical medium” because not all regions have good Internet.
There is ”always going to be requirement” for a company as big as Sony to support discs. Everything downloadable in 10 years? That’s ”extreme.”
“We do business in parts of the world where network infrastructure isn’t as robust as one would hope,” said CEO Kaz Hirai. “There’s always going to be requirement for a business of our size and scope to have a physical medium.”
“To think everything will be downloaded in two years, three years or even ten years from now is taking it a little bit to the extreme.” That’s not to say that Sony won’t expand their digital library through the PlayStation Store though. PSPgo is of course a digital-only PSP that hasn’t performed all that well for them; lessons have been learned.
