Bethesda: 7M units of Skyrim shipped, half sold

Bethesda has announced in a press release that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim sold half of the 7M units that were shipped at launch for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, generating more than $450 million in global retail sales over the course of 48 hours.

In the process, Skyrim set a record of 280K concurrent players on Steam.

“We are grateful for the fans’ response to Skyrim,” ZeniMax CEO Robert Altman proclaimed, “Todd Howard and his team at Bethesda Game Studios have crafted a very special game. Anticipation for Skyrim has surpassed any game in our company’s history, and we are pleased that sales and reviews have reflected the quality and hours of amazing gameplay it provides.”

“Without a doubt, this has been our most ambitious project ever,” Bethesda game director Todd Howard noted, “After over three years of development, we’re finally excited to get it into everyone’s hands.”

The sales figures corroborate VGChartz’s sales estimates of 3.4M units across the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms.
