The former EA dev says you can call your game engine "whatever you want," but it's a "trick." Modern Warfare 3 runs at 60 FPS on consoles, he boasts.
"You can go out and name your engine and call it whatever you want. I've done that before - I've seen that trick," said Glen Schofield, now head of Sledgehammer Games at Activision who is co-developing Modern Warfare 3 with Infinity Ward.
"The bottom line is this game will run at 60 frames a second. Not sure any of our competitors will," he added. DICE announced that Battlefield 3 will run at 30 frames per second on console so they can keep their player count high in matches.
"I'd be a little scared at this point, in June, if I was looking forward to a particular game that wasn't on the console and running at 60," said Schofield . "60 is our competitive edge and you just don't throw that away." You shouldn't talk game engines he states.
As a studio "you don't ship an engine, you ship a game". EA and DICE have been tooting the horn of the new Frostbite Engine 2 which increases destructibility as well as visual aesthetics. It looks like Activision is stepping up their war of words.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC November 8th. Battlefield 3 releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC October 25th in the US, 27th in Europe.
