Sega has dashed the hopes of eager gamers awaiting a sequel for their beloved open world game Shenmue, as the publisher has announced that a trademark filed last Monday for Shenmue III is a hoax.
According to a statement, ”Sega has confirmed that the recent application for the trademark of Shenmue III is a fake and is looking into the origins of this application.”
The listing was made in the European Office of Harmonization for the Internal Market (OHIM), which has since been removed.
The series was last seen back in 2002 on the original Xbox with Shenmue II.
This follows a fake OHIM listing for Fallout 4, along with a fake teaser site TheSurvivor2299.com.
