Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Ed Solomon will write the Venom screenplay, while Kurtzman directs the film, while Drew Goddard will be penning The Sinister Six script and probably direct it, too. Kurtzman and Orci wrote The Amazing Spider-Man 2 along with Jeff Pinker - and are also working on The Amazing Spider-Man 3.
According to Columbia Pictures Doug Belgard, “The Spider-Man film franchise is one of our studio’s greatest assets. We are thrilled with the creative team we have assembled to delve more deeply into the world that Marc, Avi and Matt have begun to explore in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. We believe that Marc, Alex, and Drew have uniquely exciting visions for how to expand the Spider-Man universe in each of these upcoming films.”
Naturally, Sony and Columbia Pictures are trying to grow the Spider-Man band much like Disney has been expanding the Marvel universe with The Avenger films; oddly, legality doesn’t permit, say, The Avengers or Spider-Man from using terms like mutant or X-Men because Fox owns those film rights, while Fox and Disney cannot make reference to anything Spider-Man related, and so on.
Venom and The Sinister Six videogame adaptations, of course, are inevitable, so stay tuned for the official announcement of the games.
