Jeanette Garcia and Daryl Rodriguez from Miami, Florida have took to Kickstarter for their documentary series project World 1-1 which explores the history of the video games industry from humble beginnings.
They plan to start with Atari who paved the way for the game industry to be formed as they produced the ”world’s first successful” arcade machine, as well as home console.
The documentary duo ware looking for $15,000 in pledges and have outlined a ‘plan of action’ for their World 1-1 series. They’ve snagged some notables to interview.
Atari co-founder Nolan Bushnell, Activision co-founder David Crane, Adventure creator Warren Robinett, Donkey Kong programmer Garry Kitchen, and more. They’ve completed the script for the series and have ”confirmed most of the interviewees.” They’re in the later stages of pre-production. They estimate release Fall 2014.
”The film will follow the early games before the arcade machine even existed. It will tell the story of how Atari created the games industry years before it should have happened and follow the lucky deals and unfortunate mistakes that almost destroyed the entire industry just as quickly as it was born. Atari was the fastest growing company in the United States at the time. It kickstarted Steve Jobs’ career, as well as others.”
”The world’s first successful arcade machine was built there, along with the first popular home console. Atari and its engineers formed the games industry we know today. We wouldn’t have the games or technology we have today without these innovators. It’s time to tell this story, from the words of the creators themselves.”
