The studio has ”never duplicated” themselves and so whatever PS4 holds for them it is “not going to resemble” anything from PS3. Working on PS4 over PS3 is ”incomparable. Very easy.”
The revelation came from Quantic boss Guillaume de Fondaumière. They do plan to follow the same story and character driven formula for their next-gen title though.
”Innovation is part of our DNA. We’ve never duplicated ourselves. We never clone ourselves or other people’s projects; we always try to create unique experiences,” said Fondaumière.
”For us, a new console is another reason to try and innovate. What is certain is that whatever we’re working on on PS4 is not going to resemble what we’re doing on PS3… We’re going to try and reinvent ourselves.”
”Incomparable. Very easy,” described Fondaumière when asked about PS4 development. ”We’ll be able to express ourselves in a more straightforward way. So it’s perfect, it’s excellent.” Quantic is hard at work on Beyond: Two Souls for PlayStation 3 which will remain exclusive to that platform, at least for the time being.
”At one point with Heavy Rain, we felt that Move would be interesting, and therefore we implemented it,” he continued. ”It’s not the case, at least not for now, on Beyond… We don’t think Move is necessary. We can do everything we need to be doing with the Dualshock controller.” They’ll be certain to skip 3D as well - it’s not a good enough return.
Beyond: Two Souls releases on PS3 October 8th.
