Total War: Attila might be just over the horizon, but that doesn’t mean that Creative Assembly has given up on Total War: Rome 2.
The developer has just announced Wrath of Sparta, a new “epic campaign” that sets the clock way back to 432 BC at the outset of the Peloponnesian War.
That’s the earliest period that Total War has ever attempted, apparently. In the Peloponnesian conflict those pesky Spartans are not playing by the Athenians’ rules, and Wrath of Sparta plonks you right in the middle of an all-out war between various Greek city-states. And the Persian Empire, which senses an opportunity for plunder and expansion.
“Across a bespoke campaign map focussing on a highly-detailed ancient Greece, the Greek Islands and the Ionian Coast,” explains CA, “this campaign pack features all new tech-trees, battlefield and naval units, great wonders and famous Greek heroes. In addition, a flavour-packed focus on ancient Greek culture is delivered through many iconic athletic competitions and festivals.”
Wrath of Sparta drops on December 16. You can find out a bit more in the Rally Point episode from CA that I’ve embedded above. The expansion’s available to pre-order through the Sega store for £8.99.
