Far Cry: Blood Dragon was a fun little sidestep for the Far Cry franchise, a brief venture into ridiculous B-movie mayhem. Sadly, we won’t be getting to shoot any robot dinosaurs in Far Cry 4.
Creative director Alex Hutchinson told IGN that Ubisoft Montreal wants to try something a bit different this time around, rather than re-treading old ground.
“It was surprising, and it was a great use of the Far Cry 3 base,” Hutchinson said. “But hopefully we’ll be able to come up with something that surprises you just as much. Because if we did another one, you’d be on my Twitter saying ‘Are we going to have a Blood Dragon every year? You’re just in a factory churning things out.’”
Probably a smart move. Blood Dragon was what it was, a fun change of pace with a neat retro aesthetic. You don’t want to drive a single good idea straight into the ground.
Far Cry 4 drops next week in the US and Europe, and we already know at there’s going to be at least one outlandish mission released for the game - one adventure in the game’s Season Pass sees players battle hordes of abominable snowmen.
