Citybound is solo developer Anselm Eickhoff's attempt to out-Simcity Simcity, an ambitious city-builder with a cool minimalist art style.
You can get a sense of Eickhoff's attention to detail in this latest developer diary, in which he discusses the game's complex traffic AI.
This update is just one example of how transparent the game's development has been. Eickhoff likes to keep his followers up to date with every aspect of his work, and he's gathered a large following of genre fans unsatisfied with SimCity 4.
Here the focus is on traffic AI, in particular lane-merging. Watching tiny cars slow down, peel off and cut ahead of each other is, as Eickhoff says, "kind of mesmerising to watch". If you're interested in Citybound there's a tonne of other videos on his Youtube channel.
Citybound is still in early development right now, but the Alpha version is planned for next month, and the full release roughly a year after that.
