Ubisoft’s free-to-play browser strategy game EndWar Online has entered Alpha version 0.3.0, adding a bunch of new and redesigned features that the developer claims are based directly on player feedback.
These include a reworked Commander System, the ability to upgrade equipment and simplified HQ management, as well as a new Friendly PVP system.
The first three additions focus on giving the player more choice when customising their online army. Rather than spending points to upgrade your chosen Commander and then having to wait an age for the training to kick in, abilities are now learned instantly. There’s also more Commanders to choose from at low levels.
A new in-game resource, Materials, can now be used to improve equipment. You can only earn Materials from item drops and mission rewards, so choosing which areas to focus in is now even more important.
Finally, upgrading your HQ is now slightly less complex. Rather than having to set up a building every level, upgrades now start at level 20 and then become available every 10 levels. ”We plan on adding more to this feature later on,” says Ubisoft, ”but due to our redesign of the commander system, there are many balance changes to consider.”
Friend PVP simply allows you to play quick games with your friends. As numbers in the current Alpha test are fairly low, the new mode lets players who want to find a game jump straight in without having to search for a match via Skirmish mode. “Although it’s very basic at the moment,” Ubisoft explains, “testing and feedback from Friend Matches will help us create the tools needed to set up custom tournaments and events in the future.”
Although places in the ongoing Endwar Online Alpha are limited, you can sign up over on the game’s official website for a chance to take part. The game’s expected to release in full next year.
