The Witcher 3 isn’t all that far away now, so the spoiler-averse amongst you might wish to avoid watching the seven minutes of footage revealed at PAX East over the weekend.
Not that there’s anything particularly plot sensitive shown here – mostly it’s more of Geralt exploring some lovely landscapes, chatting to grubby peasants, and carving monstrous beasts into pieces.<iframe width="560" height="315" data-src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/l7S9v-AnYe8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Narrated by senior level designer Peter Gelencser, the video shows off one of the game’s many side-quests. Geralt’s looking for some missing soldiers, and since the game-world of The Witcher 3 is ludicrously vast, he decides to head out on horseback.
We see our hero make use of some of his Witcher senses to investigate the scene of a battle, and then it’s back to the series’ familiar third-person combat bolstered by spells and potions as Geralt kicks the stuffing out of a wyvern.
Okay, so basic gameplay doesn’t look all that different from The Witcher 2, but the pretty landscapes and open-world adventuring both look rather tantalising. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is on the way this May 19.
