Pillars of Eternity is getting its first expansion at the end of the month, and it will bring with it a whole new snowbound area for you to explore.
The White March – Part One’s new quest-line is designed to take place around a throd of the way through the main campaign, when you’ve taken control over the stronghold of Caed Nua. If you like, however, you can come back to it later, at any point before the game’s final encounter.
”When you enter the expansion it checks your level,” Obsidian’s Josh Sawyer explained to PC Gamer in a recent interview. “If you’re above 9th or 10th, it says ‘hey dude, you’re really high level, do you want us to scale the content for you?’ You can say no, because a lot of our players we find do not like dynamic scaling. They’d rather have the option to say no.”
If you accept, all the encounters and quests in the new content pack will be scaled to your level, providing a nice challenge however geared up you are. There’s also a new, high-level dungeon called Cragholdt Bluffs, designed specifically for players who want a challenge. Sawyer mentions that there’s another dragon boss fight hidden in there somewhere, too. Apparently it’s tougher than the original game’s Adra Dragon. I find that hard to believe.
Pillars of Eternity: The White March – Part One drops on August 25.
