Some might say that PC gaming is doing just fine on its own without any help from Microsoft and Xbox, thank you very much, but the company continues to try and woo gamers with big claims regarding the upcoming Windows 10 operating system.
In a website post looking ahead to 2015, Xbox Wire editor in chief Will Tuttle says the company’s goal is “to help PC gaming flourish.”
“The Xbox team is continually working hard to expand and improve the experience across myriad devices – including home gaming PCs, soon to be powered by Windows 10,” Tuttle writes. “Our goal is to help PC gaming flourish, and we’re excited to be helping shape the future of Windows. Phil Spencer will be sharing more on the Windows consumer experience at a Windows event on January 21, including the role that gaming will play.”
We have kind of heard these promises before, but it does seem like Microsoft intends to make more of an effort with the PC this time around - the announcement that DirectX 12 will ship with Windows 10 has certainly raised eyebrows. Given that Valve is waiting in the wings with SteamOS, they don’t really have much choice but to up their game.
“We remain committed to gaming on console,” says Xbox head Phil Spencer in the video above, “but we know we have fans and gamers that also play on PC and phone, and it’s important that we build out the features that we have, learning from what we’ve done on console, and help make Windows 10 the best operating system we’ve ever created for gamers on PC.”
Big words, Phil. I’m actually sort of looking forward to seeing what Microsoft can come up with. Can we have a proper desktop setup again this time? I’m using a PC, not a giant smartphone.
