In the general excitement of what was a pretty crazy E3, it’s easy to forget that alongside the triple-A juggernauts and resurrected classics there’s been a bevy of exciting indie titles on display this year.
Titles like Eneme Entertainment’s Eitr, an isometric, pixel-art action game with liberal sprinklings of both Dark Souls and Diablo. Though we don’t have an exact date just yet, Eneme has confirmed that the game’s coming to the PC next year.
You play as a Shield Maiden in a Norse-themed fantasy setting, whose task is to stop the world tree Yggdrasil from being infected by a dark power – the ‘Eitr’ of the title. The game itself is a top-down action RPG, but there’s an emphasis on reactive dodging, blocking and parrying.
“The game will be challenging and require timing and precision to progress through the environments. Players will need to use a combination of blocking, combos, buffs and positioning to succeed in battle,” explains Eneme.
As you can tell from the trailer above, it also looks very, very pretty. Some of those lumbering, undead enemies could have come straight from the mind of Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki, and there’s really no higher praise than that. With that said, it looks like the game has enough unique idea to make it stand out in its own right. I’m looking forward to seeing more.
