If a placeholder page on the Windows 10 Store is to be believed, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare could be arriving on Microsoft's store-front in due time. While not fantastic news to begin with, it quickly digs its own grave.
With Microsoft still trying to validate the need of having big-budget releases on the Windows 10 Store following the release of Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizon 3, they've shot themselves in the foot before officially revealing the Windows 10 Store version of the best-selling FPS franchise.
How, exactly? Though the Store page isn't viewable without some slight wizardry, those with access made sure to take note of the FAQ slotted deeper into the post. Uttering the words "...you can only play these titles with other users of Windows 10 on Windows Store."
With alarm bells on high alert, the message seems to indicate that should you decide, for whatever reason, to pick up the newest Call of Duty through the Windows Store, you won't get to play with anyone running a version from anywhere else - like Steam, for example.
Considering the Call of Duty franchise is more or less only still around thanks to its multiplayer counterpart, being limited to playing with only Windows Store users would likely spell disaster for your matchmaking efforts further down the line. An incredibly high portion of players will purchase the goods through Steam, so anyone with the lesser popular Windows 10 version are bound to run into a player shortage.
Why exactly this happens to be the case is yet to be explained. Why bother releasing on the Windows 10 Store in the first place if you can't promise compatibility with the version almost guaranteed to outsell the other? Hopefully we'll have some answers soon.
