Back in January, an Unreal Engine 4 fan remake of Metal Gear Solid wasby indie developer Airam Hernandez. Hernandez has announced on Facebook that the game was being shelved.
In a brief missive, he, "We have an important announcement to make today: We have to cancel the Shadow Moses Project for reasons beyond our control. We would like to thank everyone for the tremendous support we have received."
One might think that Konami put the kibosh on it, but Hernandez stated not only was the purposed of game was "to recreate just the Shadow Moses environments and make a 'museum game' to those who wanted to explore the base with current technology" but he was also in communication with the publisher and its public relations. The "museum" part of the project is important, since new exemptions to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act were made allowing games to be altered or hosted on defunct online servers in order to make them playable once again as a part of preservation.
Intriguingly, Hernandez later, "We do have some other news coming though." This seems to indicate that development is being halted because the team has something bigger to produce.
