Moonlighter is an upcoming indie with gorgeous pixel art and a fun hook. You’ve got to take your little shopkeeper through randomly generated dungeons in order to keep your town’s adventurers fully supplied for their quests.
The concept is similar to 2007’s Recettear, but Moonlighter promises to differentiate itself with deeper combat and exploration, along with a fully featured town. The game’s strong focus on dungeon delving means that you’ll have to keep upgrading your own abilities, but your only source of gold is selling the loot by day in your shop.
Will Moonlighter make our list of the Best Indie Games on PC? It’s certainly off to a promising start!
The developers cite Rogue Legacy, Binding of Isaac, and the Legend of Zelda as strong influences, and the game’s shaping up to have charm and quality similar to its inspirations. I’ll be watching this title with great interest.
It’s currently up for consideration on the Square Enix Collective, and if it generates enough interest there, it will hit crowdfunding services with support from Square’s marketing efforts. The team hopes to deliver a final game in 2017.
