When former Criterion founders Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry went on to create a new, independent studio, they were probably hoping for a bit more success than they had with their first title, Dangerous Golf. It received mediocre-to-negative reviews when it released early in June, and it sounds like it hasn’t done much better commercially than it did critically.
An update recently released addressing some of the complaints from fans and critics, but it doesn’t sound like new content is coming any time soon. “We’ve always listened to feedback and our customers and we all take that really seriously. Whilst we’d love to be able to add more levels to the game – the reality is that we just can’t afford to do so,” says Ward in a recent interview.

”No, not yet,” was his answer when asked if the game had made its sales expectations. ”We pooled our life savings to start our studio and to start making games. We’re a 100% player supported Studio. Every copy sold directly supports our 11 person development team. The money goes to the people who actually make the game. So a big thank you to everyone who has bought our work so far!”
This all comes courtesy of an interview with Console Obsession. Despite Dangerous Golf’s tepid release, the studio is in a solid enough position to be thinking about their next title. ”It’s no secret that we’d like to get going on a driving title next,” Ward says, and even with the concerns around their most recent game, the developer’s Burnout pedigree would make a new racing game a very exciting proposition.
