Former Criterion developers Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry recently formed their own studio, Three Fields Entertainment. Best known for creating Burnout, the duo have announced their first game for the company; Dangerous Golf.
Dangerous Golf has as much to do with sport as a cricket bat did in Shaun of the Dead. Instead of trying to get the ball into a hole a couple hundred yards away, players are trying to break as many things as possible with the gold ball. According to Ward, ”We wanted to mix the attitude of Burnout with the destruction of Black whilst setting the golf ball on fire - a nod to NBA Jam.”
In fact, the goal of the game is to avoid the hole flag. ”In real golf you would probably really think about where (the ball is) going to go and try and land as near to the flag as possible,” explained Ward. ”In our game you get more points if you deliberately land it as far away from the hole as possible, turn your back on the flag, bang it in the wall.”
The game will feature four indoor and outdoor locations, including such venues as a medieval castle, a hotel kitchen, a palace ballroom, and a petrol station (which the devs say will blow up real good). Future locations are promised as part of the game’s downloadable content.
Dangerous Golf is expected to see a digital launch this coming May. If the game is successful, expect a spiritual successor to the classic Burnout 3: Takeout by the developer.
