Firaxis have announced Sid Meier’s Civilization VI: Rise and Fall, the first official expansion pack for the game. The DLC will be out February 8 for PC and will bring "new choices, strategies, and challenges" to the game. See below for everything we have on the expansion.
The announcement trailer can be seen here or is embedded below. The Rise and Fall expansion will add new ideas such as civilizations experiencing Ages of wealth or ruin as they progress, Cities having Loyalty values which if it drops too low could make them revolt, and the introduction of 9 new leaders and 8 new civilizations. Which is a lot.
Firaxis are particularly excited about the Ages system. Anton Strenger, Lead Designer at Firaxis Games, had this to say about the expansion:
"With the new Great Ages system in Sid Meier’s Civilization VI: Rise and Fall, players can experience the ebb and flow of building empires amidst the challenges of history, either to lasting greatness or the dust of antiquity. With this expansion’s new features, players will be both challenged and rewarded in ways never seen before in the 26 years of the Civilization franchise."
Here are all the details about the new features coming to the expansion:
You can try a 60-turn demo of Civilization VI over on the game's Steam page if you haven't made up your mind yet. In a shocking turn of events, we actually awarded Civilization VI our Game of the Year 2016 award. Nominator Joseph Bradford said of the game, "Civilization VI takes the series’ many systems and improves upon them in every tangible way. From the way you build cities - thanks to the new district system - to how you interact with rival civilizations and their varying AI, Civilization VI is the successor the series needed."
Civilization VI: Rise and Fall will be available February 8.
