Moduwar is one of the most off-beat real-time strategy games we’ve come across recently, and it’s already evolving into a big early access project worth keeping tabs on after its June 3 launch.
So, before we get into the meat and potatoes of this first content update, what’s Moduwar about? Well, it’s described by publisher Firesquid and developer Biohex Studios as “an adaptive organic RTS where you control an alien creature, Modu.” It can split its body into smaller parts and merge them back together, creating a number of strategic possibilities depending on the situation.
Moduwar features a single-player campaign “set in the rich and dangerous world of Arkadia” which follows the Modu as it fights to liberate itself from invading human forces and the Chimera, but the fight continues in PvP multiplayer, arena and survival modes, and offline skirmishes. Long story short: This is a weird but fully featured RTS package.
What’s included in Moduwar’s Spring Update?
Moduwar’s first early access update, the Spring Update, was released on July 1, 2025. It focused on the multiplayer menu and adding different difficulty levels. Here’s a quick rundown of the biggest additions plus changes:
- Multiplayer: Added a title to the MP menu, fixed submerge/boost actions, fixed MP lobby errors.
- Difficulty: Added five difficulty levels for each campaign mission. More options and rewards are coming in the future.
- Level 3 ‘diving creature’ & Level 5 ‘starfish’ no longer “push the player aggressively,” resulting in more balanced and fun fights.
- Various text and localization fixes.
The promised Save & Load system has been postponed and won’t arrive until the July update. You can check Moduwar’s current early access roadmap here.
