Publisher and developer Behaviour Interactive today announced that Dead by Daylight’s Ringu Chapter is slated to release in March 2022.
Inspired by both Kōji Suzuki’s novel – published in 1991 – and the 1998 Japanese feature of the same name, Dead by Daylight’s Ringu Chapter was teased in a short video that started with an all too familiar rumbling generator that’s seemingly stranded in the middle of a fog-covered forest.
A telephone can be heard ringing throughout the 23-second teaser while the camera pans over to focus on a well – which acts as antagonist Sadako Yamamura’s home/grave in the movie – before black smoke covered the screen as the picture begins to distort.
“The importance of the Ringu franchise in Japan, and its influence on culture around the world are undeniable. To be given the opportunity to dive into that legendary story as we bring this creation into Dead by Daylight is an immense honor,” said Game Director Mathieu Côté.
“This new Chapter will give our players something intensely dark and troubling, a real heart-pounding experience that adds to the already high intensity of our game.”
No specific details were shared just yet regarding the characters and map featured in Dead by Daylight’s Ringu Chapter.
If we were to speculate, we’d expect Sadako Yamamura to join the game’s continuously growing roster of Killers, which already features quite a few other iconic horror movie and video game characters.
Some of these name include Hellraiser’s Pinhead, Scream’s Ghostface alongside Resident Evil’s Nemesis, and Silent Hill’s Pyramid Head, all of which join a number of original playable characters.
We’ll learn more about Dead by Daylight’s Ringu Chapter over the coming months.
