Kalypso Media and Realmforge Studios aren’t anywhere near done with Dungeons 4, it seems, as they’ve just announced the arrival of a new DLC set for December 9 which brings in the Dark Elves.
“Who are the Dark Elves?” You ask. “Well, they’re like an Elf but, once the sun sets, they gain even more power! Also, thank you for asking, that’s very thoughtful of you to give us a framing device like that.” We reply!
Jokes in the consistently funny press releases for this game aside, the new DLC, which doesn’t have a price tag at the time of writing, packs a new 4-mission campaign which focuses on Thalya and Tristan as they clone themselves, causing the titular Double Trouble! PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 will get the new premium content pack at the same time, with the Nintendo Switch version hitting later.
If you’re looking for a quick rundown of the new content features making those four new missions pop (hopefully), here you go:
- Dark Elf units: Introducing the Beastmaster, Blackguard, Spellbreaker, and Dark Knight.
- New rooms for dungeons: The Dark Elf Portal Room allows for the recruitment of the aforementioned new units, while the Animal Kennel allows players to tame creeps, with the Dark Entities joining the party.
- Four new skills and one more outfit for Thalya: Machine Gun Entity, Tamer, Dark Sun, and The Dynamite Shepard abilities. The “slaying” new outfit is that of the Queen of the Dark Elves.
- Day/night cycle: The Overworld is affected by this cycle, and the shadows of the night boost the brand-new Dark Elf units.
Needless to say, we’re excited to jump back into the funny and absorbing world of Dungeons 4, a strategy game that, despite not reinventing the dungeon sim subgenre, totally managed to get the basics right and be effortlessly charming.
