Survival horror video games inspired by retro classics appears to be in vogue, so it comes as no surprise up-and-coming indie studios continue to give this mechanically simple genre (by today’s standards) a go. Now, we’ve learned about God Help Us All, a fixed-camera survival horror adventure set in the Wild West.
RetroGig is the studio behind the project, and according to its site, it appears the devs are also selling their own toolkit (for both Unity and Unreal) which aims to make the development of retro survival horror games easier.
Though it’s still early and we’ve yet to see even a first trailer, the game’s Steam page has an enticing synopsis already up:
“In this chilling experience, you’ll play as Onacona, an albino bounty hunter returning to the isolated town of Los Cuervos. A mysterious sickness is spreading through the arid lands, turning the locals into something monstrous. It’s up to you to uncover the truth before it’s too late.”
The game’s fully embracing a fixed-camera perspective and old-school pre-rendered backgrounds. Though it’s said to be heavy on puzzles, RetroGig also teases a focus on weapon upgrades. Of course, “graphic content” and religious imagery and themes are part of the deal. When mixed together with its Wild West setting, the result could be one of next year’s most interesting indie horror releases.
God Help Us All is currently targeting a Q4 2026 release on PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
