As online shooters with live-service aspirations come and go, fresher ideas are needed to survive an overcrowded market. Veteran-founded Stoke Games seems to be gunning for something different with Tyr, an upcoming ‘tank shooter’ with a futuristic twist which focuses on strategy over quick reflexes. Now, the developers need your help to playtest the game.
At the time of writing, we have neither a release window nor information on all the platforms being targeted beyond Steam, but we’ve been told Stoke Games’ current plan is to gradually expand the player community through invites and many rounds of testing, which is why, if the pitch sounds enticing enough, you should click here to get a chance at playing the game early and helping get it into good shape. Only Steam and Discord accounts are needed.
The studio, which has veteran talent from past multiplayer hits like Valorant and StarCraft 2, also shared a teaser trailer on YouTube ahead of the playtest period:
Tyr isn’t only about heavy traditional tanks. It also features lighter battle vehicles that hover above the ground or variants that strike a balance. On top of your vehicle of choice, you’ll need to upgrade them through unique trees that provide all sorts of skills, abilities, and ammo types.
The competitive online multiplayer game is also built around a system that establishes “opponents will only be visible when within range or while making enough noise.” Tank skills work with and around this, but of course, team coordination and well-calculated pushes are key to achieving victory. This is no fast-paced Twitch shooter.
