4X sci-fi strategy game Galactic Civilizations IV has locked in the release date of its 3.0 Hyperlane update to June 12, 2025, publisher and developer Stardock Entertainment announced today.
Available to all owners of the game, GalCiv 4’s 3.0 Hyperlane update introduces the titular hyperlanes to complement its existing free movement system.

Generated maps can feature groups of stars connected by hyperlanes that significantly increase unit speed when traveling between them.
“The Galactic Civilizations games have always stood out because players can take their fleets and move them freely on the map. However, players have requested having map generation where groups of stars are very distant from each other within a given sector,” said Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock Entertainment.
“The challenge there is that players also don’t want to spend dozens of turns moving through the void of deep space, Hyperlanes let us have it both ways.”
Galactic Civilizations IV’s 3.0 Hyperlane update also adds a civilization-wide fleet supply limit that can be increased by events, researching certain technologies, and “other mechanics”. Its goal is to decrease micromanagement while making starship quality “more distinct”.
Reaching large fleet sizes remains possible but needs to be earned rather than being the sole approach to victory.
Lastly, hundreds of small updates and improvements are also planned, ranging from higher resolution textures for ships to various balance improvements as well as new civilization data screens.
Galactic Civilizations IV’s 3.0 Hyperlane update is available now on Steam as a preview build for anyone looking to test its features before its official release date on June 12, 2025.
Between May 15 and May 22, publisher Stardock Entertainment is also hosting a franchise sale on Steam, making it a great time to add any missing titles or DLC to our collections.
