Kinstrife Gameplay
Described as a “non-linear singleplayer medieval RPG with physically simulated combat,” Kinstrife takes a sandbox approach to gameplay, giving us a hefty amount of freedom in determining our character’s skills and fate.
As we explore a variety of different historical locations, traversing vast fields and taking in the medieval architecture of villages, castles, and monasteries, we get to decide how we “build up our skill, renown, and wealth.”
Kinstrife aims to recreate realistic medieval battles, duels, sieges, and tournaments, and we’ll experience our fair share of them while exploring its world.
“Our cutting-edge physically simulated combat system makes the impact of each swing count – weapons don’t simply clip through but instead deliver staggering blows, characters fall when losing their balance and horse charges knock down your opponents,” the developer explains.
“Each attack, feint or parry creates unique, interesting, natural situations – rewarding experimentation, different playstyles and replayability.”
Kinstrife Story
Kinstrife is set during the turbulent period of the Great Interregnum, with multiple great houses eyeing the imperial throne as bandits and robber barons plague the land.
This context offers plenty of opportunity for a fledgling knight to make a name for themselves, but it’s unclear whether or not Kinstrife will feature a dedicated story.
Considering its focus on sandbox elements, it could instead rely on emergent narratives to forge our character’s legend as we explore 13th-century Germany.
