Publisher and developer GFA Games today announced that post-apocalyptic MMOFPS Pioner has locked down its release date to the middle of December, plunging us into an alternate reality inspired by the Soviet era just in time for the holidays.
Wishlisted by 500,000 players ahead of its launch, Pioner “emphasizes realism over traditional mechanics,” promising a sprawling open world that stretches across more than 50 square kilometers. Exploring it uncovers plenty of hidden dungeons, story quests, and faction missions, as the game blends PvE and PvP elements.
Pioner Gets December Release Date
Influenced by classic science fiction stories, Pioner’s story campaign features “complex characters, powerful artifacts, and mysterious anomalies” that shape our journey through its world.
As we complete quests, we increase our influence, which not only makes merchants eager to sell us better items but also sees higher materials dropping from fallen foes while allowing us to improve non-combat abilities.
Pioner’s release date brings “a range of activities, including PvE missions, PvP arenas, events, story-driven locations.” Accompanying them are mini-games such as fishing, and Carnage, which the developer describes as “a unique tactical card mini-game, featuring collectible decks, rewards, and ranked matches.”
As we explore the world, we encounter different factions, with which we can ally based on both their beliefs and the rewards they offer.
Weapon customization plays a major role in how efficient we prove in combat, allowing us to equip “unique modules and designs” on various firearms.
As important as eliminating opponents is to our survival, we’ll also have to manage hunger, energy, and various resources to ensure we stay at the top of our game.
Furthermore, artifacts, anomaly energy, and scavenged materials let us craft new gear that’s bound to come in handy.
When Pioner releases on December 16, we can choose between its standard and Deluxe Edition. The latter includes both the base game and the following extra goodies:
- Unique Skin: “Renegade” - a unique, exclusive armor and gear design
- Weapon Skin with VFX - a unique weapon skin for the entire AR platform, including AR-12, AR-16, and AR-16 Ifrit
- Exclusive Founder Title - a status symbol for social interaction
- Premium Currency - 500 Efritanium Crystals
- Weapon Accessory: “Creepy Charm” - cosmetic trinket for a weapon
- Gadget: “Katana” Watch - inspired by the iconic 80s Japanese watch design; a retro-futuristic style that fits the world of PIONER
There’s no word on Pioner’s price just yet, but you can wishlist on Steam ahead of its launch. The MMOFPS is also headed to console, although we’ll have to wait a bit longer before learning when that might happen.
