Ravenswatch, the top-down action-roguelite that pits heroes of old folk tales against hordes of nightmarish foes is ready to leave Steam Early Access.
More than a year since we could first defend the world of Reverie as Red Riding Hood or the Pied Piper, the 1.0 update promises to up the stakes and give us new rewards to chase.
Ravenswatch 1.0 Carmilla Update Release Date
Publisher Nacon and developer Passtech Games today confirmed that the 1.0 update will go live for PC players on September 26, 2024, introducing a host of new content, including Carmilla, the ninth playable hero, a final boss, character backstories, unlockable cosmetics, as well as “a lot of polish.”
Directly inspired by the 1872 eponymous short story by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu – while also picking elements from the widely known story of Dracula – Carmilla joins the fight as a Dhampir, a half-human, half-vampire that can stay in the sunlight but who is slowly being driven towards becoming a pure vampire.
Her gameplay style revolves around resource and risk management, the developer tells us in a percent press preview session. While attacking, some of her abilities generate Blood, a resource that can be used to fuel other abilities.
Attempting to use Blood when her reserves are dry sees the heroine relying on her health pool instead.
In addition to her distinct playstyle, her unique trait allows Carmilla to grow wings that make her the fastest character in the whole roster.
The developer expects speedrun enthusiasts to quickly grow fond of Ravenswatch’s newest addition.
Alongside its newest hero, the action-roguelite is also getting its final boss. Unveiled as the culprit behind the nightmarish invasion that plagues the world of Reverie, Baba Yaga herself – and her giant living house – will put our mastery of the game’s playable characters to the test.
Although the launch of Ravenswatch’s 1.0 update marks a major milestone for developer Passtech Games, the studio plans on supporting the action-roguelite with additional content in the future.
This includes new heroes, new activities, new enemies, new game modes and challenges, quality-of-life updates, community-requested features, as well as cosmetics.
In a media presentation from earlier this month, a Nacon spokesperson also added that there are no plans to introduce battle passes, an in-game store, or any “hard currency.” Furthermore, these updates will pair free content with premium DLC.
Ravenswatch will also come to both current and last-gen consoles during fall 2024 with a physical edition in tow. This will be followed by the launch of the Nintendo Switch version which has yet to be dated.
The PC version will be priced at $24,99/€24.99/£20.99, while its console counterpart will set you back $29,99 or your regional equivalent. A Deluxe Edition priced at $34,99 will also be available on PC.
When I asked about the possibility of crossplay being added after Ravenswatch arrives on consoles, the publisher noted that while there was “nothing to share at the moment,” the feature remains “on the table.’
