Following last week’s news that Tero Virtala was stepping down from his role as Remedy Entertainment’s CEO following the poor results of FBC: Firebreak, the company’s first move into online co-op with live-service elements, interim CEO Markus Mäki has commented on the present and future of four different projects.
A business review of the June-September 2025 period was shared today, October 29. It highlights the “rise in game sales and royalties, decline in revenue and profitability” that’s led to Virtala stepping down, though it seems Remedy isn’t altering its larger vision substantially anytime soon. If anything, Markus Mäki openly confirms Remedy has “moved development resources to our other in-development titles” when referring to FBC: Firebreak’s fallout.
The messaging confirms work on the game is still ongoing as the developer continues to expand the shared Control-Alan Wake universe, but fans should temper their expectations; with disappointing sales and player numbers carried by its release across subscription services, we’re not expecting a massive content roadmap.
When it comes to Control and its sequel, the company states it has been “discovering new audiences for the game” since the distribution and marketing rights were transferred to them in early 2025. Control 2, meanwhile, is in full production and progressing adequately.
Also in full production is the Max Payne 1 & 2 remake, which is being done in collaboration with Rockstar Games, who will publish. No new updates to share on that front yet, but it’s likely that development will be boosted following the transfer of resources from FBC: Firebreak.
The press release also mentions more work going into the Alan Wake franchise alongside Control. A new mystery game is now in the proof-of-concept stage, and considering what’s happened with Firebreak, we can theorize this could be the follow-up to Alan Wake 2. That said, after the more explicit crossover, expect Control 2 to tie into the larger narrative somehow. This, of course, is pure speculation for now.
“We aren’t satisfied with our recent financial performance, but we remain confident in our ability to create great video games that resonate with players and which are commercially successful, leading us back to profitability,” Markus Mäki concludes.
