Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic’s release date brings us a spiritual successor to one of the most beloved RPGs set in the universe created by George Lucas – Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Developed by Arcanaut Studios, a studio founded by KotoR and Mass Effect trilogy Game Director Casey Hudson, the title looks to honor the series’ legacy while carving its own path forward.
Although it is not a direct sequel to KotOR, the new story Fate of the Old Republic tells is tributary to the classic RPGs and the lessons it taught the development team at Arcanaut Studios, who is “crafting an adventure about choice, destiny, and the timeless struggle between light and dark.”
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic Release Date
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic does not currently have a release date. At the time of its unveiling, it was in early development, with its team still being built up. This essentially means that it will likely be at least a few more years before we’ll venture across the stars and make choices that push us towards the Light or Dark side of the Force.

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic Gameplay
Very little is known about Star wars: Fate of the Old Republic’s gameplay at the moment. Its developer did confirm that the title will be a “narrative-driven single-player action RPG where you step into the role of a Force user on a journey through a galaxy on the edge of rebirth.”
The “action RPG” part suggests that it might do away with the turn-based battles of the games that inspired it.
The game “blends innovative storytelling, memorable characters, and heart-pounding combat,” according to its developer.
The decisions we make along the way will see us embracing either the Dark or Light side of the Force, potentially shaping different narratives for our character.
Its reveal trailer – although decidedly Star Wars – was comprised entirely of cinematic scenes made using Unreal Engine 5, showing what appears to be a Jedi traveling across the stars in their spaceship.
Upon landing on a mysterious planet, they approach a massive wreck, accompanied by two companions, one of whom appears to be a droid.
As soon as they reach said wreck, an ominous figure – potentially a Sith Lord – briefly appears into view before the camera cuts to a close-up of the protagonist’s face, reflecting the blue hues of a lightsaber being activated.
