Publisher Slitherine has been steadily adding popular IP to its ever-growing portfolio, announcing in 2021 that Stargate: Timekeepers was in the works. Developed by CreativeForge, the real-time tactics game is based on the Stargate SG-1 TV series, but branches off in terms of narrative, telling its own story.
To prepare us for our inevitable meeting with new and familiar faces, we’ve gathered below everything we know about Stargate: Timekeepers, including details about its release date, gameplay, story, and more.
Stargate: Timekeepers Release Date
Stargate: Timekeepers’ release date hasn’t been revealed so far, which likely means that the game needs to spend more time in development.
A beta test is scheduled to kick off in July. With a bit of luck, we’ll get our hands on the full game later this year, but 2023 might be a safer bet at the moment.
Stargate: Timekeepers Story
Stargate: Timekeepers branches off from the main plot, telling an original story set after the end of season 7. Its events begin by following Commander Eva McCain and her team during the Battle for Antarctica as they support the SG-1 against Anubis’s fleet.
The characters you lead later end up helping the Jaffa resistance, seeking an alliance with the Unas, as well as battling a new Goa’uld System Lord.
Stargate: Timekeepers Gameplay
As far as gameplay goes, Stargate: Timekeepers resembles titles such as Commandos or Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun.
Players control a small squad of characters, each one having unique abilities that help them overcome obstacles while out in the field. Observing enemy routines and exploiting their weaknesses is key to success.
Stealth plays a significant role, as you’re often outnumbered, and you’ll have to take into account your enemies’ vision cones when planning your movement.
The game’s 14 missions see you exploring large levels that can take upwards of 45 minutes to complete, according to the publisher.
You can hide in bushes to wait for the opportune moment to strike or distract enemies using various abilities. Flashbangs can limit a guard’s vision cone, potentially giving you just enough time to remove a conspicuous body.
At times, you can also use objects in the environment to dispose of pesky foes blocking your path or employ disguises to reach vulnerable targets.
The composition of your squad will determine how you approach each mission and you’ll be able to recruit several characters throughout the game.
Some names include Eva McCain – a master of hand-to-hand combat and automatic rifles –, agile sniper Max Bolton, Sam Watson – an expert on alien gadgetry –, Derreck Harper – whose drones heal allies and deactivate hostile electronic devices –, alongside Jaffa rebel A’ta and Unas veteran Xugga.
Diffculty-wise, the team behind the game aims to offer options that both test the tactical skills of players and allow those more interested in its narrative to see it through. To this extent, you will be able to save anywhere during a mission.
Missions are set across a range of biomes, from frozen expanses to lush forests, where you’ll evade and dispatch foes both during the day and night.
