The war against the Arachnid threats heats up as the 2022 RTS Starship Troopers: Terran Command expands with an all-new “semi-roguelite” mode at no extra cost plus core gameplay refinements in its Version 2.0.
If you’ve been keeping tabs on publisher Slitherine’s recent output, you’ll notice some of its best-reviewed games were based on iconic sci-fi properties like Starship Troopers and Terminator. In the case of Terran Command, the single-player strategy game has been trucking along with a dedicated community for over three years now, so it comes as no surprise players are getting an extra something and major reworks for free and on top of two paid DLCs released in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
Before we give you the quick rundown of the meaty 2.0 update, watch the new explosive trailer for the Territory Mode below:
“Instead of following one scripted mission after another, players now decide where and how to strike the Bugs and wipe out their nests in an open strategic campaign. Battles can be fought across the galaxy, with each planet offering its own distinct set of maps, objectives, and unique Arachnid threats—ensuring that no two campaigns ever feel the same.”
Territory Mode also introduces battle groups, “specialized factions” of sorts which “consist of a unique set of units, turrets, and abilities, adding character-based elements and super innovative tactical options to every deployment.” Each battle also comes with unique technologies players must develop in order to gain upgrades and new units. As teased by the press release, it truly sounds like a roguelite twist on the game’s classic RTS formula, which isn’t something we’ve seen many times before.
Alongside the highly replayable new mode, the core game has also gained an all-new strategy layer with territory points that must be held to guarantee the “steady income of a new, essential resource” used to recruit new units, heal entire squads, and get new tech.
To celebrate, the game as well as the two expansion DLCs will enjoy discounts on Steam until October 28.
